Gaining Opportunities and Living Smarter (G.O.A.L.S.)
The G.O.A.L.S. Program, an initiative of the Solicitor-General, gives offenders with little to no criminal history, between the ages of 17 and 25, a second chance. Through the program, defendants complete life skills classes, education, job training and community service, and have the opportunity to see their criminal case dismissed and expunged. The goal is to break the cycle of recidivism and help particular individuals complete their education, find jobs, and become assets to the community. The Solicitor-General’s Office works with a multi-disciplinary team to assess, guide and mentor program participants. The Team has included DeKalb County Magistrate Court, DeKalb Pre-Trial Services, DeKalb County Office of the Public Defender, DeKalb County Probation Department, DeKalb County Workforce Development, DeKalb Technical College, Atlanta Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce, 180RealLife, Edwina Knox-Betty, LCSW, BaSix Knowledge Academy, and Counseling Solutions of Atlanta.
